Referral terms

Last updated 19 October 2026

These terms govern the Steerd referral program, run by Unbogify GmbH ("we"). They apply in addition to our Terms of Service. Where the two say different things about the program, these terms take precedence.

1. Who can recommend Steerd

Your team can recommend Steerd while it has a running paid subscription: one that is active, or one whose last payment failed and is being retried. A team on the free plan, in a trial, suspended or being deleted has no link. The team owner finds the link under Settings, Billing.

Your team has to meet this condition twice: when the referred team subscribes, and again when we record the payment that earns your credit (section 3).

2. What the referred team gets

A team that subscribes to Steerd for the first time with your code gets one month of Solo free: the first invoice of its subscription, after any free trial, is reduced by the monthly Solo price that applies on the day it subscribes. This holds whichever plan and billing interval it chooses.

Your code comes with your link: a team that signs up through it finds the code already entered at checkout. A code typed in at checkout replaces the one from a link. The free month is given only if the code is still valid at checkout, which means your team can still recommend Steerd (section 1) and the referred team meets the conditions below.

The free month is given once per team, and only to a team that has never had a Steerd subscription and was not referred before.

3. What you get

When the referred team makes its first payment on its subscription, your team earns one month of Solo as a credit, at the same amount the referred team received. The first payment is the first time the team pays an invoice of that subscription with an amount above zero. If it pays a later invoice before an earlier one, the invoice it paid first counts.

We put the credit on your team's subscription and email the team owner when we do. Your next invoice is then reduced by it. A credit reduces an invoice by at most its own amount and never below zero, and the part of a credit that an invoice is too small to absorb lapses.

Several credits are spread over the following invoices. Each time, we put on as many as your next invoice can absorb in full, as far as we can tell in advance, and at least one, but never more than ten at a time. A credit is only deducted from an invoice in the currency it was earned in. While your subscription bills in another currency, the credit waits. In the hour before your subscription renews, and while a renewal is overdue, we put no credit on; a credit that would go on then goes on after the renewal, for the invoice after it.

4. Limits

  • Your team earns a credit for at most 12 referred teams per calendar year, in Berlin time. A referred team counts in the year it made the first of its payments we learn of. Teams referred beyond that still get their free month.
  • A credit takes its place under that limit when it is earned and keeps it, even if it later lapses. If the payment that earned it is refunded in full or taken back after a lost chargeback, the credit gives its place back once we know that no invoice used it. While an invoice that took it can still be paid, including one we wrote off unpaid, it keeps its place. This also holds for a credit that had already lapsed. If the limit was reached when we record a referred team's payment, your team gets no credit for it, even if a place comes free later.
  • Your own team, and a team that shares its owner or any member with yours, cannot use your code: there is no free month and no credit. We check this when the referred team subscribes and again when we record its payment. If the two teams share someone by then, the referred team keeps the free month it already received, and your team gets no credit.
  • A team billed to the same customer account as yours keeps its free month, and your team gets no credit for it.
  • There is no credit if your team can no longer recommend Steerd (section 1) when we record the referred team's payment.

5. Refunds and chargebacks

If the payment that earned your credit is refunded in full, or taken back after a lost chargeback, before an invoice has taken your credit, the credit is withdrawn. An invoice takes a credit when the invoice is drawn up, which is before it is due. A partial refund does not affect the credit.

6. What a credit is

A credit can only be used against invoices of a Steerd subscription. It has no cash value and cannot be paid out or transferred.

A credit already put on a subscription lapses if that subscription ends before an invoice has taken it. It also lapses if we cancel the invoice that took it, or write that invoice off unpaid; if you pay a written-off invoice after all, the credit on it counts as used. A credit that is still waiting, because your team has no running subscription at the moment or its subscription is canceled to the end of its term, stays earned and goes on your team's next running subscription.

7. Sharing your link

Share your link with people who may find Steerd useful. Do not send it as unsolicited advertising, and do not use it in paid search ads on the name Steerd.

8. Data

To run the program we record which link a referred team used and the state of each credit. Your team sees how many teams subscribed through its link and how many months it was credited. Neither team is shown the other team's name in Steerd.

9. Changes

We may change or end the program with effect for the future, and announce any change on this page with its date. A change does not take back a free month already given or a credit already earned. The amount of both is fixed on the day the referred team subscribes.
